Course Reflection

I have learned much during the EDTECH 513 Multimedia course.  Even though I had some experience with some of the tools I used, I also became familiar with other multimedia tools, such as Camtasia, Audacity, Jing, and screencast.com.  With the difficulties presenting themselves to me this semester such as moving and changing jobs, the coursework in this course became more challenging than I think it would have otherwise.  I was compelled to find solutions as quickly as possible, and still produce quality work.  As I always uphold a very high standard for myself, this gave me added pressure.  I do, however, enjoy these kinds of projects.  This was the first time I had created a podcast, and a screencast.  Most of the challenges for me were technical issues that I needed to figure out and solve.  But, in the long-run, they turned out fine and I grew in my knowledge and confidence from these challenges.

In my work as an instructional technology resource teacher, I will use what I have learned in this class in my position at a new school district and school.  I now have experience with additional multimedia resources and tools, and will enjoy using them in my computer lab with students as well as teaching the teachers not only to create these types of lessons, but the benefits of using them with their students.  I learned about the principles of multimedia learning; things that I did not realize are vital to creating and maximizing the learning from these tools.  I look on it now and know that when I create multimedia lessons, they will be created using specific principles in mind in order for students to learn the specific content they are designed to teach.  I am thankful for the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of these technological tools and the ways they benefit learners.  This new knowledge excites me to begin the new school year with tools that will empower teachers and students in my new school.
